The majority of PC users are using Windows 7. It'd be stupid not to support Win7 with DX12. Unless they force it for Win10. D:

and hope Microsoft doesn't do something stupid. :)
M$ doesn't do something stupid? really? i'm used M$ OS'es since DOS 3.3 :summersun:

To a point, so am I. I've seen my fair share of idiocy from Microsoft, and I've seen my fair share of smarts coming from them. All we can do is pray for the smarts, if that's your type of thing.

I don't have sound on this device so I can't confirm if true, but on 2 (german) news sites the following video was linked, in which Huddy (of AMD) confirms that there will be no DX12 support in Windows 7. It should be around the 20:50 mark.

Frankly, AMD is not a reliable source. They claimed there wont be any DX12 at all.

"If you want the benefits of a DX12 style API, the way you will go, is use, use your games that are delivered on Mantle." AMD shill confirmed.

I'd rather not believe that, since the video I posted was a conference dedicated to DX12. That or I could be delusional. Still, I hope DX12 does come to Win7.

Good news: Microsoft open .NET source and makes it cross-platform:
"Write a Trojan once on .NET and run it on Windows, Linux, MacOS!*
No tortures with porting to Mono!*
*(campaign is supported by the union of virus-makers)"
Too many good news from M$ - I'm going to pray... :P

I don't know if that's sarcasm or real. Too tired to tell. It sounds pretty satirical.

"Write a Trojan once on .NET and run it on Windows, Linux, MacOS!* No tortures with porting to Mono!* *(campaign is supported by the union of virus-makers)" That would be implying that linux and mac could interpet and understand .NET natively or non-natively depending on the user and what they've installed. Knowing Apple, hell no they wouldn't have that happen with Macs. Knowing linux, most likely no, unless .NET libraries are installed. Again, it depends on the user.

If I answered to satire, my apologies. I'm quite tired.

---EDIT---
Nevermind, I stand corrected.

Wouldn't this require the user to have this installed? Since MacOSX and linux both don't natively support this, it would require the user to install the libraries. Then put themselves in danger...

All right, that's sarcasm with some humor
Unfortunately, all the good ideas are destroyed by their implementation
It's like a virus epidemic last three months: all know of them , but still go to links, dl it unzip! and run - human nature...

once there is .Net created as a platform for applications that make it are smaller, do not require programming elementary things, shifting them to the platform, etc.
as a result of the program still cumbersome and dll-hell replaced to .net versions-hell

So it is not clear what will happen with DX12 - do support in 7 or forced all buy a new version of the OS, as usual (and with them the new hardware) - future is uncertain

Unfortunately given MS stance of not actually confirming Win7 support, I would say the default assumption should be that Win7 WILL NOT be supported. And these simply add to that narrative.

Remember that DX11.1 is only 'barely' supported on Win7 at this point.

DX11.2 is NOT supported on Windows7 at all

Until we hear something from MS itself saying Win7 IS supported, the most likely scenario no matter what the install base, is that DX12 is going to be Windows 8 only.

I highly doubt it. Support for Win7 is already mute at this point; aside from future security updates.

Considering how hardware is changing and such; wouldn't be a bad idea to just get Win10 if u are on Win7 now. Won't make much sense to use Win7 for much longer. If u don't need to run the latest things, fine stick with Win7. But for future drivers/apps/games; u can't expect Win7 to be supported any longer. That's just how it is, deal with it.
