compatibility mode

steam tells me its running in compatibility mode. it tells me to go to steam.exe and click compatibility mode. no steam exe, just, "steam.exe.OLD" with no compatibility tab. this compatibility issue comes right after a steam update. the only file modified at this time is the debug file . this all happened today 1/20/2015

I want registry entries. That is, press Win and r at the same time, input regedit.exe and press Enter.

this is out of my league, as always, and the regedit has no steam.exe. the program you advise to use is frowned on by my operating system...so im going to have wait this out and see what you guys can figure out

This would be typically caused by Windows seeing a compatibility flag for Steam.exe. I'd like to fix my script to delete the flag properly, but I can't without proper information.

refresh didnt work ..i dont know what info you want..i got win7 64bit os, win 7 is on the compatibility list and the old extension is still on the exe

I want a list of occurences of Steam.exe in the registry, that is the thing you can look at with the regedit.exe tool.

ok im on valve in regedit, theres a steam exe, what next ?

No. I don't need the occurence of Steam.exe in the Valve key, the compatbility setting is not there. Just pick the root key, press Ctrl+F to call the search function and search for Steam.exe.

1. This is one search result. There are more, press F3.
2. If you want me to help you, give me the path with more details. Regedit displays the full path in the status bar.

You know, while I'm a technical guy, this particular problem is widely unknown to me. I know that somewhere there a compatibility flag is set, but I don't know where.

Ok, nice. That's one value. What you lack are
1. The actual path to this. Have you read what I said about the status bar?
2. The name of the key. This is most likely (default)
3. All the other occurences
