How to add Far Cry 4 on Steam using cd-key
Hi everybody, I've recently been given Far Cry 4 (on original cd/dvd/whatevs) for my birthday. I've already activated the code on uplay and it's downloading now, but I love to have all my games sorted together in Steam. Is there any way to add Far Cry 4 to my list of games on Steam? Or do I have to add it once I've installed it, via 'non-steam games'? Because if so, it'll just disappear when I delete the game or buy a new computer. And I like to have quick access to the Far Cry 4-forums as well...

Try this: Go to steam on Up Left corner find "Games" then click on "Activate a Product on Steam" and insert here your key.

No, UPlay keys are UPlay keys, not Steam keys.

Ubisoft is slightly more cooperative than EA when it comes to Steam, but they aren't best buddies.

Ah yes, sry i forgot about that as Kargor says. You cant activate Uplay keys on steam. So. There is no choice. You cant activate the key on steam. I think you must keep it on Uplay.

In the meantime, like you said yourself - you can add the game to your non-Steam -list, that will give you the Steam overlay.

You can also go to Steam -> Settings -> In-Game and change your homepage to http://steamcommunity.com/app/298110/ and pretend you have quick access to the gamehub by pressing the 'Web-Browser' from inside the overlay.

Also, if Far Cry 4 seems to have performance issues (IF despite your hardware being good enough to run it), I'd personally recommend to edit the game's profile.xml file found under
C:\Users\<user>\My Documents\My Games\Far Cry 4\numbered subfolder

and edit the values
  • DisableLoadingMip0=0 to DisableLoadingMip0=1
  • GPUMaxBufferedFrames=0 to GPUMaxBufferedFrames=1

It doesn't seem to make much of a hit graphicswise, but the performance should be a lot better after.
