Activation of amazon products...
Mortal Kombat X and Arkham Knight are due to be released later this year, and I want to pre-order them on amazon (so i can also have a physical copy).

My question is, will I be able to activate the CD keys of these games on Steam?

Check the DRM in the amazon page, If it's "DRM: Steam" then you can activate it on Steam.
PS4 copies cannot be activated on Steam.
Arkham Knight will very likely activate on Steam, just like Arkham City and Arkham Origins.

I'd ask the developer/publisher of Mortal Kombat X if it will be a Steamworks title. Not unlikely if you take their switch from GfWL to Steamworks into account they did in MK9.

That is the PS4 version link...

The PC version link seems to be physical, but doesn't list whether or not it is Steamworks. You may want to wait on preordering the physical version until you can verify if the game uses Steam on retail. I haven't found any ifno on it yet (haven't cared enough to look).

Ok - I will wait! thanks :D
Do keep in mind that a "physical copy" of a game that uses Steam is rated somewhere between redundant and pointless. Chances are the "physical copy" will be outdated so you might get a possibly large download anyway, and you can't sell it as a used copy either (or rather, you can sell it -- you can sell a pile of horse manure if you find someone to take it -- but the buyer can't use it. Sell horse manure instead, there's SOME use for that. Like, for example, you can stuff it into the face of someone selling you a used Steam game).

And the physical copy will be useless just like your online purchase when Steam terminates its services.

Of my two Steam games that I got on DVDs, I only ever actually used the DVDs for one. For the other one, I felt that the additional work to make Steam get the install from the disks just wasn't worth it.

To answer your question, "What is DRM". It stands for Digital Rights Management.
I am aware that that physical copy need online activation, but I still like to have the box/manual. Not much difference in price either.

If i didn't want the physical copy, i would just buy on steam and not amazon.

Also if steam/sony/origin/ea etc... go bust, we will most likely still be able to use the games, as another company will buy them out.

Anyway, all that is besides the point.

thanks for answering my queries.
