Hacked - cannot connect to Steam servers!
Hey guys,

So my brother was hacked the other day. He was invited to a four man party on CS:GO who asked him to download a group call program, and got a link. He downloaded it, and got logged out of steam. He tried logging in with no success. He got the message:

"Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers."

On top of that, he cannot access the steam website (the forums and steam support is accessible). It's just like his IP was blocked, but I already refreshed it and restarted the router with no luck.

Any help here?

Has your brother scanned his computer for viruses and attempted to remove them?

Yes he has. He's all clear.

No, he's not. The virus just hid itself from the virus scanner.
Anyway, contact the support. And do an offline virus scan.

It wasn't a virus. The scammer apparently edited his hosts file to block Steam's servers.

And how can the samer do that without a virus?

Well I guess it was a virus that created the problem but not a virus that kept it going.

Maybe you are not a virus expert.

If you install a malware it can do whatever it was meant to do. So clean the computer.

hey i had this problem my self you need to accsess the network file within notes which is in windows/system32/drivers/ect and delete all the steam url ip stuff blocking access. this worked for me
