Steam no longer asks for CVC?
I have bought games from Steam over the past few months. Today I logged in and wanted to buy something as well.

When I proceeded to Check out, I got the following info on screen.

Payment method:
MasterCard ending in XXXX (Change)
Gift options:
None, this purchase is for your own account.
Billing Address:
<Address stuff>
Phone:
<number>
Steam account:
mrimman

And then there was the 'Purchase' button. I am pretty sure that we had a small textbox where we entered the CVC or the 3 digit number from back of our card in this page.

If I click purchase, I get the message that

"Your purchase has not been completed. Your credit card information has been declined by your credit card company.

Note that in some cases, your credit card company may put a 'hold' on funds in your account, but you will not be charged. After correcting any errors in the information displayed below, please try your purchase again."

This is because of the missing CVC value, the card works fine elsewhere. If CVC is no longer used then it probably might mean that its the end of the line for many more users.

Can somebody confirm this?

You should contact Steam support for this.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I do intend to contact them. But just wanted to confirm if this is the case with everyone or just me.

Steam appears to still ask me, when I select either Visa or Mastercard, the expiration date and code input fields still appear.

It does ask me on that page. But when I proceed to Checkout, it is supposed to ask it there. Especially when my card is saved (and CVC isn't by Steam's policy). Even if I try to add my card manually, it asks for CVC in the adding page but not on Checkout. :/

That is my "Proceed to checkout" page. That's the only time Steam ever asks me for my security code, when I'm filling out the payment info during checkout. And I've only ever filled it out once per checkout. The next page is the "Review purchase and agree to SSA" page.

I did have my card details saved, so I never get the page that you have attached, instead I directly get the "Review purchase and agree to SSA page" (with a small box for CVC confirmation). Today that box isn't showing up and even if I try adding my card again (like we have to if we don't have the info saved) the transaction fails.

Thanks anyway.

I have opened a Support Ticket at Steam and also a ticket at the Card Company. Let's hope for the best.

Edit:
I am pretty sure something is wrong at Steam's end, now I get-

"An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed.
Please contact Steam Support."
