Mouse offset problem with Steam client
Sometimes the Steam client gets confused about where the mouse is on the screen. To click on a button, I will have to put the cursor significantly below and to the right of the button I want to click on. Restarting the steam client usually fixes it. I'm not really sure what triggers the bug in the first place, although it might be related to changing screen resolution (e.g. when RDP-ing into the machine running the steam client.)

Has anyone else seen/permanently fixed this?

In the picture, steam thinks the mouse cursor is over the "Steam Controller" button, but in reality it is below and to the right.

Windows 8.1, i7 950, Radeon HD 7850, 12GB ram
Steam package versions 1431729692
Drivers are updated, etc.

I actually had this problem you can actually fix this problem without changing the image size of literally everything else on your computer.

Just exit steam, right click on the steam icon, go to properties, go to compatibility, and check "override high dpi scaling behavior"

I have the same exact problem. Usually it fixes itself when I exit and come back, but not anymore.

Has this been resolved? Because I'm now getting the same symptoms and can't figure out why.

Is your desktop DPI set to anything higher than 100%?

It is 100%, like a true boss.

I am having this problem now, my steam wants me to pick something significantly above where the mouse is located, pressing buttons right where the mouse is works properly, but (for instance) in the store the mouse will be 2 or 3 games below where steam thinks it is hovering for a preview.

I have this problem with steam, it doesn't have to do with my DPI since I can quick-change it, I checked, the DPI doesn't affect this error in any way.

It is the scaling in windows.
Set to 100%. Worked for me. I custom set it to 110% and it still seems to work. Don't forget to properly close steam and to sacrifice your first born son for changes to take effect. (Y)

Yes, it seems to be the scaling. Still, this issue was raised in 2015. I cannot believe almost 4 years later, this issue still persists. I can't be that hard to solve this. Come on Valve: Get this issue sorted. I'm not going to ruin my eyes because of you.

Your solution worked for me. I set mine to 120 instead of the default 125% and it fixed it for me

I concur with this solution. Just right-click, set compatibility (for all users if desired) and disable DPI scaling > Application.
