Mouse offset problem with Steam client
Sometimes the Steam client gets confused about where the mouse is on the screen. To click on a button, I will have to put the cursor significantly below and to the right of the button I want to click on. Restarting the steam client usually fixes it. I'm not really sure what triggers the bug in the first place, although it might be related to changing screen resolution (e.g. when RDP-ing into the machine running the steam client.)

Has anyone else seen/permanently fixed this?

In the picture, steam thinks the mouse cursor is over the "Steam Controller" button, but in reality it is below and to the right.

Windows 8.1, i7 950, Radeon HD 7850, 12GB ram
Steam package versions 1431729692
Drivers are updated, etc.

Just exit steam, right click on the steam icon, go to properties, go to compatibility, and check "override high dpi scaling behavior"

I've been sending tickets to steam about this for a year now and they seem to not even have a clue it exists. Nothing in this tread has worked for me. I constantly change resolutions from 1080 to 4k on my main monitor when playing games and working and this is so damn annoying I'm about to sell my steam account and go with a different service.

I honestly think steam can't fix it and pretend it doesn't exist. Their support has been a joke through all of this like I said they are clueless to the problem. They stopped responding to me altogether after the last email I sent.
heres what i found that worked for me:

streaming from windows 10 rtx2060s 1440p to 2015 macbook pro 2560x1600

Just as a side note i turn my pc monitor off when streaming to my laptop so i dont have to waste power. Streaming Transport Fever 2, was having the same issues until I set resolution to windowed, and manually resized as large as I could on the desktop from host pc. MAKE SURE that the window doesnt snap to the edge of the desktop and go "fullscreen", as that breaks the cursor dpi again for god knows what reason. Resolution is not amazing but it functions and is playable, so that's all I really care about.

I just wanted to share a solution I found recently for the remote share mouse bug where the mouse is offset for whoever is being shared to.

On my own pc I had everything related to my display set at 125 percent, because im blind af. Reducing this to 100 fixed the problem instantly.

Literally just right click on your desktop>display>the monitor you use>change the size of text apps and other items=100%

I tried a lot of the other work arounds with tweeking dpi settings and controller settings for steam to no avail, but this fixed it.

Hope this blurb helps any one having similar issues.

Changing that just makes it a new issue, now its like the windows client UI is squished intoa box too small to hold it all (So menu items are cut off, etc) until dragging back to main display.

Got 2 monitors, main is set @ 4k with 150% scaling(which is default weirdly enough) and 2nd is 1440p @ 125% dpi

I did not personalty note any windows ui problems besides stuff just being smaller due to no zoom.

I am running 2 monitors as well at 2560x1440 for both as well.

Perhaps trying running both monitors at the same resolution? Mine are.

Had this problem on my Chromebook when running Warband on Linux via Steam, One of the previous contributors mentioned reducing the display magnification, and this worked, so many thanks! I went to mu Chromebook settings/displays and reduce the display scaling from 140% to 120%. THe game now runs perfectly again.

This didnt work for me but I managed to fix it by doing such
right click steam icon>properties>compatibility> click "change High DPI settings"> "open advance scaling settings"> and I put mine of 125

it had me log into my laptop again, offering me windows 11(currently using 10), declined it, used steam, and so far so good.
Will update if ♥♥♥♥ changes

Alrighty so it's been *checks watch* 8 years this thread has been up

If you've reached this far it's cuz none of the other suggestions worked. We were having trouble with ONE game in particular (House Flipper) with the offset/flickering mouse and tried every post in here and then some. What we finally got working was changing the game settings to windowed in game and then manually changing the resolution to 1080p.

Just throwing this out there cuz we were about to rage quit and this entire thread is a GREAT resource for an old problem. Thanks to everyone who came before us! I feel like I'm a part of history.
