Shogun 2 DirectX issue

I have a machine currently running Windows 8. Have been playing Shogun 2 on this machine for months without any issues. Suddenly last week when booting the game I got a message "Direct X Mode. A Direct X 11 compatible graphics adapter has been detected. Select one of the following Modes: DirectX9 / DirectX11. Running DirectX 11 mode enables additional graphics options not available in DirectX 9 mode. You can change the DirectX modes in the front end graphics options." Once I select a mode, the Splash screen comes up briefly then I get: "Total War:Shogun 2 has stopped working. A problem with the program has caused it to close".

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M. I also have Rome 2 and Attila on the same machine and there are no issues with either of these games. I have all three games loaded on a second machine running Windows 7 and there are no issues with any of the games on that machine. Any suggestions?

If you have mcafee web advisor it won't launch the game. I uninstalled it and it worked like a charm
