Steam voice chat too quiet at max volume
So I am trying to voice chat with someone while I am playing a game. Problem is, even with the game's volume at minimum and steam's voice chat volume at maximum, I can barely hear the other person over the game sounds.

I have the receive volume turned all the way up in the voice settings. Unfortunately, I can't switch over to Skype for Desktop and just use that because it has the exact same problem -_-

Is there any way to fix this? It's completely ridiculous that you can turn the receive volume up to max and still have it be barely audible with your headphones at a reasonable volume and no other sounds playing. I can't turn my general headphone volume up because then the game sounds would just get louder along with the voice, so the problem would persist.

I've got the same problem, I think it might just be the voice codec but I'm not sure

I have a somehow similar problem. My own mic is VERY low, and the other person can barely hear me. The volume meter is 1-2 blocks only, when it should be around 5. My volume works normally with skype and discord, and i checked my settings, but found nothing. Halp plz

This thread is a little over two years old, so kind of strange to be getting new comments all of a sudden. I guess you could say this has been resolved in the sense that I just use Discord for voice chat now :0

IT FKIN SUCKSSSSSS! None of my friends can hear me on steam chat. The only time I use it is when Discord breaks down. lol

FWIW I think I might have fixed this by opening up the volume mixer and raising the volume level on just the Steam Chat...but it has been four years so don't hold me to that.

I have at least 12 times. Each time I got standard dismissals. "Our voice over internet is fully functioning. Please make sure your device is fully connected and that you are using a functioning microphone." "I AM, I KNOW because I use discord AND Google Hangouts! My computer, internet, AND ESPECIALLY my 60 dollar headset are all fully functioning! It's STEAM!" "Our blah blah is working at acceptible performance and isn't in high demand." bunch o' bull. We NEED to LITERALLY send them complaints EVERY week!
