As for the analog stick locations, doesn't really matter much to me.
However an xbox controller has official drivers that will work out of the box with most games on staem
the PS controller wont. And unfortunately most peple will recommend you install a Chinese Trojan called MotionInJoy. DO NOT DO THIS. Or you can run a plethora of other drivers like SCPDriver.
or you can just use an xbox controller and be done with it.

But personally I found them too expensive for the quality what they offer. (especially the 310 series is a complete dud) The official X-Box pad still wins, although the d-pad need skill to get used to.
But the regular PS3 controller won't work without setting up some 3rd party software which are complete bloatware.
Therefore to hold us to the initial question - the X-Box pad is better, because it officially works on PC, while the PS3 doesn't.
