Steam Client Unable to connect with Origin Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Ports Forwarded
Hi guys, i always managed to be able to connect to steam network with no issues.
However when i started playing plants vs zombies garden warfare, it required the following ports forwarded:
UDP: 3659
UDP: 49152 – 65535

Once ports (9152 – 65535) are open i am unable to connect to steam.

Anyone face this problem before?
If i wanted to connect to steam i had to remove the port forwarding rules for the range 9152 – 65535

I would like to emphasize that steam always worked without me forwarding any ports
Any help is very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Within that range, Steam requires UDP 27000-27030.

It could be simply because the other PID uses those same ports that your Steam -client doesn't work. Being able to change the ports PvZ GW requires would be optimal, but probably impossible.

Right, except UDP allows for multiple PIDs on the same port; while TCP doesn't.

By the way, here it says only this range:
http://help.ea.com/za/article/online-ports-to-open-pvz-garden-warfare-pc/

  • UDP 3659
  • UDP 49152-65535

Thanks for the reply. But just forwarding the ports in that range would have no effect on the games itself right? the steam process would pick a different port than the other game and just be fine right?

Yup i only forwarded those ports on my router. Unfortunately steam still needs access to any random port between 49152-65535 range . I ran both the programs the same time and both picked different ports and both ports are in that range.

Just out of curiousity, if you enable the TCP launch parameter to the Steam -client while you're playing Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, does it work?

I mean, PvZ: GW is non-Steam; so Steam not using UDP ports shouldn't restrict it.

Technically, the Steam's shortcut file -> Target.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -tcp

Yes i have tried with TCP it connects fine but you wont be able to play multiplayer games like Dota2. it just enables you to see the client and chat with friends and stuff, reason being because i didn't enable port forwarding for TCP, only UDP. I suspect if i turn on tcp port forwarding, the tcp parameter wont work too

I only meant it as a temporary workaround for PvZ GW, hence why I mentioned it being a non-Steam -game and not being restricted by it.

Anyhow, I'm out of ideas. Has Port Forwarding previously caused any issues on your router?

Thanks for the ideas! I have not done any port forwarding prior to getting Pvz.

You could see if it's related to the actual ports you forward; or just the concept you actually do forward ports.

If it's the latter, you could try Port Forwarding both PvZ GW and then Steam's ports.
