Trying to add a friend without spending money
I'm logged into my daughters' account right now, trying to add them as a friend. They aren't even showing up in the search, and neither am I, when I search from their account. On my main account, I have spent more money than makes sense. On this one, though, I'd rather not.

How about some help?

You have to spend a minimum of 5$ I think to have privileges of adding friends; etc.
Steam added this to try to cut down on the amount of bots going around spreading malicious links.

Limited accounts can still receive friend invites, they just can't send them.
If you can't find the account in the search, just use the profile URL to go there directly.

Just go to http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198189915397 in your webbbrowser, log in as your own account that has spent money if you need to and then click the add to friend button.

No need to search for accounts when it's easy to find the link to them and then just visit it, it's just the link from the username in this thread.

no body wants to pay to add friends

Well it's a good system to cut down on bots/beggars

Nobody wants to receive 50+ bogus friend invites every day from bots who want to send them malware download links, either. :archerrat:

i bought the disc version of terraria (which was about £8) and redeemed it on steam, and that doesn't count as spending more than $5 :(

Redemptions don't count. You need to spend the money directly on Steam.

Because it has to be bought directly off of Steam...

Just send him a friend request, you are not limited.

To answer the question in case someone else stumbles upon this thread with the same question, $4.99 is not close enough to $5.00, you would have to spend over. Or add $5 to your Wallet and not have to over purchase.

and his account has to purchase the game.

For his friend to be able to send friend requests yes, you can still recieve and accept friend requests from other people without buying anything.

You're in a store. You were goingt to spend $5 at some point anyway. Until you do, you're not an actual steam customer
