Watching movies on external dvd player on PC?
This isn't particuarly steam related.
I have a blu ray/ dvd player that has an HDMI cable that I'm able to connect to my laptop, which has an HDMI port, and I was wondering if it is possible to watch movies from the dvd player onto the laptop, using it as a display, as the laptop does not have a bluray compatible DVD drive.
I just don't know exactly how to play it or what software I would need for my PC to regognize the player.

Are you saying you are connecting a blu-ray player to a laptop via HDMI? That won't work as you will need a blu-ray drive that connects via USB. If its an actual player that plugs into a TV then I think you would need something like a capture card for your laptop that you plug the hdmi into.

Anyways, the software you would need to play blu-rays would be something like CyberLink PowerDVD or VLC player (with special plugins).

In simple terms, your laptop's HDMI is only an output. It only sends out data.

If you have hardware with USB connections (My TV and PC both support this), consider buying an external USB blu ray player. ( Amazon link[www.amazon.com] )
