the code for my physical copy of gta iv won't work
so I've had my physical copy of gta iv:complete edition for a while now I think since December of 2013 but I just never got around to playing it but when I did try using my game code on steam it found nothing I also was reading through this https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601#which and found out that gta iv physical copy codes are accepted on steam. can someone please help me out I really want to play the game and not have to use a CD:ROM drive/reader

Do you have the 15 character key code in three groups or is it different?

GTA4 physical copies aren't accepted on Steam; only digital copies activate through Steam.

Download and install Games for Windows Live; that's where the codes go.

only the keys in three - 5 character groups are accepted, as per the link in the first post.

"Grand Theft Auto IV CD Keys in this format: 1ABCD-D3FGH-45I67"
