Hard drive crashed: Can I still get my gamesaves?

This is a thing many others probably had before. Unfortunately my harddrive crashed today and I'm afraid I can't get any files off it anymore.

So my question is, am I able to get my game save files such as Skyrim and it's mods back into a new hard drive? I didn't do any manual backupping, this crash came out of nowhere...
Doesn't steam automatically save files like Skyrim's, TF2 and such games to the cloud where you can download it from there?

Some games support cloud saving, not all of them. Skyrim and Team Fortress 2 both do. Pretty much any online multiplayer game has to. There's software that lets you try to recover files from a damaged/failed hard drive, though the success rate varies wildly.

Skyrim mods won't be saved to the cloud, you will have to reinstall them manually.

aditional info: I did have syncing enabled. like..everytime you go out of the game, it happens to sync for a while. not sure if it has anything to do with game backups though.

alright, I don't mind the mods..as long as I still have the game saves. Is there a place where I can look HOW to sync the game saves from the cloud into my HDD?

Games themselves are always tied to your account and can be downloaded again. Game saves are game dependent.

//edit// The saves will sync automatically when you start the game on your new computer.

They should be there when you load the game up the next time. (Automatical.)
