error adding friend

I have recently joined steam and I have a few games on my account, however when I try to add a friend whether that be on the steam website , phone app or pc app it always says error adding friend I have looked into this and tried the block and unblock method but nothing, they couldn't of blocked me as I have only had steam for a few days and would be very grateful if you could help me fix this problem..

Because exactly this. You haven't bought a game on Steam, have you? That explains why you can't add people.

i have bought games off of steam i have got, warframe from the steam store, or do i actualy have to buy a game from the store with money??

Depending on what you mean by saying 'money'. If you mean money, without any quotes, then yes. If you mean something else, then most likely no.

It won't.

As long as you have an acquisition method that says 'Steam Store' or 'Gift or Guess Pass' under http://store.steampowered.com/account/

So, let me get this straight - I can't use the service I'm tied into through my game installation, unless I give them additional money?
OK, yes, I CAN use the service, but I can't add anyone as a friend. I'd like to get some experience playing online with a single friend before I join some free-for-all game and get my ass handed to me by more experienced players. Nice scam.

i hadn't purchased any game yet but was able to add 9 friends but now it doesn't allow me to add anymore
