Steam client constantly polling my logitech F510 controller
I started up sysinternal - process monitor and noticed a constant stream of registry key queries to the logitech gamepad despite the fact that it wasn't plugged in.

After searching some forums, some of them suggested it had something to do with steam. I decided to close the client and it immediately stopped querying the registry. Once I started it up again, it resumed querying the device.

Is anyone else noticing any problems like this and/or know how to deal with this?

Edit: Apparently the VID 046D & PID C21E also belongs to the Xbox 360 controller, which logitech apparently also makes?

Found a thread. This appears to have rolled over from beta into release and has been going on for some time. Constant polling can possibly create a performance hit in your game so feel free to chew someone out

edit: Looks like its been going on since before even then

I found a way to stop it. Download Process Explorer[technet.microsoft.com]. From within Process Explorer, double-click "Steam.exe" and from the properties window select the "Threads" tab. Find the thread with the "start address" that begins with "SDL2.dll…", click to highlight, then click the "Suspend" button. This will stop Steam from hammering the registry. I haven't had any problems with this method, though I suppose if same games use SDL it might be a problem.

You will need to resume the thread if you restart or shutdown Steam, otherwise it will hang until the thread is resumed.
