VPN?
I want to buy a new game, but I have read contradictory things about VPNs. In one place I read I will need to one to activate my game the 1st time I play; in another I read if I use a VPN I will have my account closed and be unable to use Steam. Could somebody please tell me what is the score with VPNs?

I am British and my bank account is in England, but I currently live in Belgium and often travel to other countries, and that's already caused me some problems, so please, will someone tell me what's going on? I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks

Using a VPN to circumvent regional restrictions can and will get your account banned. Any shop offering games that way is not legit.

the score is

DO NOT USE THEM

If any shady cd-key shop is asking you to do that, AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAUGE

Only purchase from AUTHORIZED resellers.

Games purchased within the EU/UK arent region locked. You can play them anywhere without issue. (the only game tah has an inexplicable EU region lock is HAWX)

There is NO LEGITIMATE reason to use a VPN on steam.

If you're having issues puchasing games on Steam because you're moving around, contact support and they will allow you to purchase games from the UK store directly from wherever you are. THAT is the solution to your problem, not VPNs

That seems pretty clear cut - thanks!

Without a public IP you wouldn't be able to use the internet at all as the servers wouldn't know where to send the data, your story does not add up.

Using a VPN for region rigging is fatal and your account will be terminated if you attempt to do so. Quite a few users who have purchased games on unathorised sites have seen their accounts permanently removed because of this.

There was a guy a few months back who bought H1Z1 on a popular but dodgy key site and was given a Russian region-locked key; he was Level 96, had about 1,300 games on record and decided for the sake of saving £8, would risk everything by using a VPN to unlock the game - his 11 year unblemished account was terminated 2 days later and he lost absolutely everything. It is not worth the risk and if you're in the EU/UK; these games wont be region locked assuming you purchase from reputable retailers.

1)i dont really know about network functions so its hard to explane but i think it doesn't have a ip6v address because my network provider is a phone comppany in finland named "saunalahti"
so dont really know but for some reason it doesn't let me to join eny servers in games without a vpn(and the vpn is in the same region as i live)

2) but i never buy games using vpn only to play online in games (for some reason my internet doesn't let me join a server without using a vpn)

1st: Saunalahti isn't a "phone company"; it's a concern company of Elisa's. I personally use Saunalahti and I don't use any proxies. Sounds more like a problem with your ports or your firewall.

2nd: Do you have to connect to Steam using -tcp?

if your talking about connecting to steam using vpn then no i dont need it to connect, i can connet without vpn but for some reason the saunalahti 4g network doesn't let me join eny game servers without a vpn or sometihng that creates a public ip(but i dont really know its just my guess) and i have called saunalehden support and they sayd that the 4g connection doesn't have a public ip(or whaterver the name was)

Yeah, probably the ports then; mobile broadbands aren't generally meant for gaming purposes and could very well block the TCP/UDP 27015.

n above all valve have your payment information. it creates a series of headaches for publishers, distributors n users...region locking. n then theres piracy. torrenting will go down as the easiest way to get something digital in the best way possible

I just bought an expensive VPN for privacy, thats why I am at this post.
I get annoyed at the Marketing invading my Privacy at every turn, polluting all my electronics.
And Google well enough said there.
I am finding VPN a Giant Pain you know where.
I Killed the TV in my Home.
Next Might just be the Net.
