PSA: Make your avatars 500x500px, and save as .jpg for a bit more quality.

Did some experiments, Here are the results[imgur.com].

Saving as a .jpg at 184x184px has quite a lot of image artifacts (grainy bits around high-contrast zones).

Saving as a 400x400px or 500x500px (both as .jpg format) removes a lot of the artifacts and makes the image more sharp and clear. There doesn't seem to be much of a noticeable difference between 400 & 500px though.
