One of my friends hever had bought anything from the market until recently, yet he's been on steam for like 4 years and he's been able to trade since he joined.. I don't understand :(
As per your friend, the purchase doesn't have to be from the community market, just a game on Steam, or funding your wallet. It's also possible that they changed the requirements since your friend joined, but you definitely need to have spent money on Steam at least 30 days ago to trade. For more information:
