Random game gifted to me?

So, I log on to see that I have a new Item in my inventory, Thinking its a card pack i go to check it out and find out I recieved a gift of the game "Hack n' Slash" I redeem it right away and then begin to question why I recieved it, I asked some of my friends to see if it was a promotional something or another but they said they didn't get it. Then I thought maybe a hacker hacked into my account and used my credit card number to gift themself games or whatever so i checked my steam purchase history and nothing showed up... Now I want to know who sent it to me! Is there any way for me to tell who sent it to me? I would really like to thank them and also ask WHY they sent it to me in the first place... if anyone can help please do, Thanks

it should say who its from but i wouldnt mind it so much cuz like, as long as ur not missing money or anything like that a free gam's a free game

I had the same game gifted to me. I know none of my freinds like me that much. Im just guessing its promotional.

Keep in mind that you can't just make gifts appear in someone's inventory. They would either be getting an EMail or a trade request; both of which need to be accepted before the gift appears in the inventory.

So yes, it has to be promotional. Only Steam itself can put items in your inventory without you having to accept them.
