Turkish Lira is live! - but important fixes needed
First of all, thank you Valve, for caring your customers in Turkey. We're very happy with our new currency. That will certainly boost the sales from here.

However, based my observations some big publisher catalogs or various games from Ubisoft, 2K Games, Capcom, Electronic Arts priced extremely absurd or not updated yet.

To be honest we couldn't understand difference between International Credit Cards and National Credit Cards or Online Banking. We were easily paid our previous purchases simply selecting Visa or MasterCard. These are Banks[i.imgur.com] which uses 3rd party website BoaCompra (anyone heard before?), they're not Payment Methods.

Most importantly, we're looking forward to seeing PayPal option back. Also Cash Transfer options like PayPal Nakit (prepaid card) and PaySafeCard would be useful. And of course necessary Mobile Payments - Avea & Vodafone cellulars.

Steam is important for us, maybe it's our backyard. We all here and loud. Because we want to make our backyard as better as possible.

UPDATE #1 (23-Oct)
After Ubisoft[i.imgur.com], 2K Games[i.imgur.com] started inconceivable pricing as well.

October, 21 - when Turkish Lira currency live: $49.99 -> 75 TL
Currently - after 2K's Guinness record update: $49.99 -> 170 TL

UPDATE #2 (24-Oct)
As we all see and witness, Steam did and still doing its best for Turkey. However when we talking about pricing titles, they can NOT call final decision. That's always up to publishers.

Please, keep the topic English and serious. Also consider all other issues mentioned above.

UPDATE #3 (25-Oct)
PaySafeCard cash transfer option now available for purchases made in Turkey!

We are the Turkish Gamers. Like rest of the world “playing games” is not only an entertainment tool for us. It’s not only a hobby too, the games that we play is a part of us because as long as we enjoy them we got a bound between us. Some of us prefer FPS games, they like to aim and blow things up with their lightning reflexes. Some other fall in love with adventures, solving myterious puzzles through mindblowing stories. Some may like the competition in leagues and try to be best player and raise in ladders games like League of Legends, DOTA 2 or Starcraft, maybe one day they are gonna be the “best”. We all like different genres but we all fall in love same thing; “gaming”. We like to listen game soundtracks, read about the lore of the worlds, following art designers’ work and get inspired by them, learning coding and mayheps create our games in future.

We all love gaming in different ways and Steam is a very important part of gaming industry. Recently Steam started to support Turkish currency. In the beginning we were not hoping for a big change but when we checked Steam Store that day we felt like “finally” someone realized ridiculous high game prices in Turkey and that seemed like Steam was trying to make some change. All around the country gamers cheered about new currency system because prices were reasonable. But it was a one day happiness, next day prices changed again and became worst than before the currency change on some specific products. At this point; let me tell you about what’s minimum and average wage in Turkey.

Minimum wage in Turkey now is 890 Turkish Lira which makes with today’s dollar rate 397$. Let’s take a look to Civilization: Beyond Earth. Before Turkish currency change product’s price was 49.99$ / 112 Turkish Lira. At the first day of currency change it become 70 Turkish Lira and that was a very reasonable price when you consider the minimum wage in Turkey. But second day price became ridiculously 170 Turkish Lira! Boom more than %100 raise, 75 dollars! Far more expensive than normal sale price (49.99$) for a digital copy. More expensive than Europe and USA sale prices. You can see same price change for Borderlands Pre-Sequel too and we are sure more will follow soon. Indie prices are fine with currency change but AAA titles rocketed up suddenly… What is the logical reason?

Let’s have a look and say average wage in Turkey 2000 Turkish Lira. Even when you calculate wages from this number buying more than one game in a month becomes luxury. I’am not even mentioning about computer hardware parts if you wanna keep your rig updated. And not mentioning rent, food, bills and other imperative expenses for a normal human being. A father may like to buy for his son/daughter a game as present, or a student may want to save his money for a long time waited AAA title of his. But with that prices that’s impossible, and i’am sorry Turkey’s economy is not that good to support it. Maybe AAA games distributors in Turkey panicked and complained about new prices on Steam? As Turkish gamers it’s the only logical explanation for this absurd increase rate of game prices.

Countries like Russia (from G2A you can buy Civ: Beyond Earth Russian Steam Activation Key for a 22$ only!), Argentina, Mexico -i’am sure there must be more countries like this- got reduced price tags in Steam. What makes Turkey so special? Our country’s economy is not better than Russia that’s a fact. Why a Turkish gamer must pay more money for a digital Steam copy than it’s actual Europe price? We are not pumping oil in our car’s tank here, we are talking about game industry (World’s most expensive gas in Turkey btw. One litre is 2$).

Another example is Riot Games. Those dudes successfully opened their Turkish Office in Istanbul and decreased their prices to Turkish Standards and now Riot Istanbul is most profitable overseas branch of Riot Games.

We want to support gaming companies (especially indie companies need every penny they can earn), no one likes to play pirate games and nothing tastes sweet as an original game. But let’s be realistic and consider economy of Turkey. Turkish Lira currency swap is a big change in Steam and all we want is reasonable digital Turkish currency prices in Steam. As Turkish Gamers we all in trust Lord Gaben. If he hears about this petition we are sure Valve will make a long waited change in Turkish gaming market via Steam and lower the prices to a reasonable level. We don’t want something extraordinary or being exceptional, we only want what other similar countries already have.

We are Gamers and we want to support game companies with buying their products. And for that, in Turkey, we need a big change. Question is Valve will lit the green light to Turkish gamers?

No it will not boost anything because of the fact that we have to pay such a high price for a fifty dollar game!!! What we'd normally pay is around 111 TL with the currency change but NOW? 170 TL!! You could buy a game, maybe 2 games with that amount of money in steam! I call this nothing but greed, this is hardly a feature, nor is a wanted one.

One small point - there are PLENTY of other countries that have bad pricing like this. You should have a look at the posts on these forums about Australian pricing for a start.

Again, complain to the publishers! It's their fault.
Even though Australia suffers from high prices, they have this problem across the board so even though it's nasty, it's a wholesome issue. As for Turkey, we're supposed to have lower prices (and we do except select companies which we point out to here) as our countrymen cannot afford to buy games like the average Japanese, Canadian or even Australian. Financial data is out there if anybody wants to check.

Heck, if on average our people were %52 richer than Americans, I wouldn't have an issue with this! But we aren't.
Spaceman 24 okt, 2014 @ 12:43
I support this issue. I hope to see, immediately fix this problem.
