Star Wars: Battlefront II - F2P Edition.
Not sure if this is correct place to put this but:

With BF3 announced and being on steam sometime next year, Would it not be good promotion to take the predecessor and make it a F2P experience? You could even implement soldier skins as drops, similar to the CS:GO engine.

Yes the game is old now, but so are other things that people still play. I understand Valve recently did shut down the servers for this game and I understand why.

It would just seem like a good marketing move to make a Star Wars game such as BF2 a free-to-play experience.

The promotional value of what is considered one of the best Star Wars games in history combined with new releases of games and a movie saga would seem to make this a good idea.

Here is hoping :)

the game servers where handled by gamespy ... I've had a quick look and found this articles

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/05/07/star-wars-battlefront-2-multiplayer-will-survive-gamespy-shutdown

which point out that gameranger does have support for the game and allow peoples to still play on online , a free 2 play could be a interesting Idea ... but then I doubt it's will happen.
Battlefront 3 is not coming to Steam. It's being developed by Dice and will be exclusive to Origin. Just like Battlefield 3, 4, and Hard Line.

Then let's pray to the sun that Disney steps in and asks EA to put their Star Wars games on both Origin and Steam, a longshot but hey whatever. Diz is back on Steam at least.
