any way to silence my cpu fan?
this might not be very "steam related" but my cpu fan is getting really loud like BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR nearly 24/7 or whenever my pc's running and it really pisses me off,
is there any way for me to fix this without having to buy a new fan or open up my computer?

Have you ever cleaned the fan? Might be time you do that. If there's dust in there it will make the fan work harder. That's also the cheapest way to fix the problem, so try it even though you don't want to open it.
You need to deal with it. If you don't open the computer and try cleaning it or fixing the fan, or get a new one, your CPU could overheat and then your machine won't work at all until you buy a new CPU and fan to boot. This is definitely a case of "a stitch in time saves nine." You don't want to mess with overheating damage with a computer.

Your problem cannot even be assessed properly if you do not open the case, you need to inspect the fan for dust that has collected, just as the others say. Blasting it with air from a can of compressed air can do the trick. Remember though, compressed air cans may shoot liquid if you turn them upside down/sideways/parallel to the ground. You have to shake it well before use and/or do not hold it perpendicularly to the ground. Test it before using it, basically. That liquid inside is meant to make the air taste bitter so people aren't tempted to sniff the air for any reason.

Now, hopefully your CPU cooler can have it's fan replaced. This can be done on some coolers, but I have heard (though I am not sure) that others cannot have it replaced, or at least not easily because their fans are extremely hard to find. If not, simply buy a new CPU cooler. I can reccomend the Cooler Master: Hyper 212 EVO.

On an added note, it could be the power supply unit making that noise, I replaced my old one because it was noisy. Another culprit could be the case fans, mine were noisy too and I replaced them with quiet ones (look at the dBA on the back of the packaging, lower is better) that came with an LED in the color I liked. :fsrocket:

i think the last time i cleaned it was like a month ago but now the frame of the screen has broken not allowing me to pull in screen down to open the case
You could lower the speed of the fan in BIOS, if both the motherboard and the fan supports PMW regulation. However your PC might to get much more hotter and shorten the life of the components. And one day your PC could simply :nuke: by playing a demanding game.

I strongly recommend to open the case and if you use a aftermarket cooler, then to either clean it or buy a new one and in the case that you use the original boxed cooler, then to buy a new one.
Boxed coolers are generally louder, less efficent and have a much shorter lifespan as aftermarket ones.

I'll try looking at my fan by opening it up and see the problem
If you have cleaned it and the noise remains, you need a new one, cause means the bearings are worn off. Most box coolers doesn't have too high durability to begin with.

My Coolermaster Geminii M4 has 2,5 years, yet is just so silent when I bought it.
A new fan isn't expensive these days and you can get some good ones for a cheap price.

Just be sure to get the measurement correctly. The top fan is the biggest one.

But as others have said try cleaning it. Also be sure that it's firmly in place. If it's off by a little it'll make noise.
If you decide to get a new one, first check the socket of your motherboard. Some coolers are made just for a certain socket type and some are compatible with multiple ones.
Also is exactly as Zefar says - the best coolers are huge. So if you have a smaller case, might be not the best for you.
And if you have RAM modules with those fancy huge passive coolers, don't buy a low profile fan. It will clash with the modules height.
Coolermaster, Zalman, Scythe, Arctic Cooling are reliable brands which offer a wide price range of such products.

should i tell you any of my specs like the brand and the type of pc?

yeah i checked under the case and it turns out quite a few of the fan blades are either broken off or been twisted or something, really bad shape my computer's in right now along with the messed up left side of the screen
I don't really know how can something lead to broken blades, either it came in contact with a cable or the dust accumulated until the point that is bursted from inside, which is very unlikely, unless it was a defective fan from the start.
So you are at the point that you need that cooler anyways. So check your CPU socket Intel - 1150,1155,1156,1366,2011,775 or AMD - AM3+, FM2, FM1.
Hope is not one from the oldest like 775 or FM1, coolers getting a rarity.

From your posts I also assume that you aren't a PC expert to perhaps setting up a complex cooler would be a problem. There are models which are enough to seat it, but might be limited which sockets they support and perhaps they would have trouble to cool a overclocked CPU or a CPU with high wattage (125W or more) Or simply you could get somebody skilled to do it for you.

So you need tell us your mobo, case and CPU or we cannot move further.
