Key cod in use Some servers ive been banned.

i bought call of duty 4 today and when i play on some servers it says key code in use or banned from this server bought the game from steam store. need help feel like steam ripped me off or something

Steam version does not need to have the key typed in ingame settings

okay but what about when i join servers it says key code in use in most of the server i cant play on anything

For the time until you solve the problem, play on servers without punkbuster. Usually no cheaters.
Try installing the new punkbuster version as well.

Type your error message and games name in a searchengine, to read about the error.

Yeah this error comes up a lot, but no one ever seems to post how they fix it.

Verify the game cache.

Got it to work i just needed to run steam on Administrator. But my stat's got erased for cod4.

I've had this issue before, and it's pretty simple to fix.

First, uninstall CoD4 in it's entirety. (I know, it sucks, but oh well.)
Then, ensure ALL remnants of the game is removed from your SteamApps directory.
Now, open up the registry. (Windows Key + R || Type in, "regedit" without quotes.)

File---Search... "codkey"
When it's done, you should see a registry entry labeled, "codkey," surprisingly enough.

Delete that entry, then re-install CoD4. It that doesn't work, please get back to me.
