Steam Left 4 dead 2 cdkey not working.

I have purchased Left 4 dead 2 at a retailer long ago, and im just adding it in to my steam account now. when i try the cd key it says it already has been taken. The package was not opened before i have purchased it, and neither i or anyone else has used the cd key before. What can i do to get it installed or working?

I'm not sure why it would say the code is taken, but if it says it's been taken, there isn't a lot you can do. The fact that you purchased it "long ago" will make things even more difficult in terms of talking to the retailer.

In the future, it would be advisable to register your games as soon as you get them and take care of any problems immediately.
