Steam chat box issues

I've been having issues with my steam chat box. I've had issues before, but I resolved it by going to the friends list and selecting 'send a message' with someone that isn't in my message 'tabs'. This problem happened when I played Left 4 Dead 2 and used the overlay while playing.

The problem is that the steam chat box is like, invisible. Like my taskbar shows that it is there, but when I try to open it, it shows that it is there, but it is not. As I said, like it is invisible.

This time, while I was playing Portal 2 for a bit (and used the overlay once or twice) and quit the game, same problem. Invisible chat box.

I've tried reinstalling Steam, restarting my computer, restarting Steam, "refreshing" steam's files, someone suggested changing my resolution and changing it back, went on Reddit and asked and they suggested pressing alt+space and then M, and using the arrow keys to move the window onto the screen. But none of that has worked.

I guess I should mention that I am using Windows 8.1

If anyone has any suggestions, anything is a huge help. I appreciate it! Thanks!

Yeah, my computer thought I still had two monitors, so it kept sending the chat box to the 'second monitor' (aka, nowhere), after setting it back to my one monitor, I haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, my computer thought I still had two monitors, so it kept sending the chat box to the 'second monitor' (aka, nowhere), after setting it back to my one monitor, I haven't had a problem since.

You still remember the steps? I could use them right now, I'm not familiar with multiple monitor setup.

multiple displays -> Show desktop only on 1
