Adding funds via PayPal suddenly requires credit card.

I tried to add 5 euro via paypal as ususal and now suddenly it asked me to add a credit card, which i do not own, and which was never required before. I've been adding funds this way for years now and now i can't...

Can you add a bank account instead?

To make a payment with PayPal without having a credit card linked to your PayPal account, you must have the total amount of your purchase in your PayPal account balance. PayPal does not offer transfers directly from your bank account without having a backup credit card tied to the account. You will need to move funds from your bank account into your PayPal account and use your PayPal balance as the method of payment.

What? I have 5 euro on my paypal. I have never had a credit card tied to paypal, as i never had one. It always worked this way. Has it changed in 5 days? 5 days ago i managed to transfer 25 euro with no problems at all.

Is it possible PayPal has a hold on some or all of the funds?

Well, if you funded PayPal via a bank account, PayPal may be acknowledging the funding but waiting for the funds to be transferred from your bank before letting you spend it, which can take several business days. If you had a failed purchase recently, a pre-authorization hold may have been placed on the funds; they aren't spent, but they are not free to spend until the hold disappears, which may take several business days.

I am looking, right now, at my paypal balance and it says 5,71 EUR. So it's pretty much there. I did not have any failed purchases recently.

Actually... I have pending refund money waiting to be added back to my wallet. May that be the cause?

Got exactly the same problem.
Steam wanted me to authorise my paypal again when I wanted to buy something (which from time to time happens for me) and when i loged in to pay with my paypal balance it wanted credit card informations from me. I Couldn't select anything else eigther.
I still got plenty of money left on paypal, so that shouldn't be a problem and i bought something just 3 days ago which worked fine
