Which games are compatible with a generic USB gamepad?
I just bought a generic gamepad for my PC. I want to play games like Fallout 3 and whatnot, but it doesn't seem to work. From what I can see, I will need to download an emulator. Frankly, i find it ridiculous that I can't just use a controller that I bought. From what I can tell, I cannot play any games without doing this... I don't want to download an emulator, as I would then render the buying of this controller pointless. Do any games work?

Fallout 3 mentions Partial Controller Support on the page.

What's your gamepad? Does it support xinput?

Hardly any. Get an XInput gamepad. The XBox 360 wired one goes quite cheap.

I don't know much about controllers, so I'm unsure if it supports xinput. It's a Speedlink Strike Gamepad USB

With some games, the gamepad either doesn’t work correctly or not at all – why?
As the gamepad supports the operating modes DirectInput und XInput, you must determine which of these two interfaces the game is compatible with before playing it. As such, set the gamepad, as described in the QIG, to the correct mode before starting the game. Please consult the manual that accompanied the game, ask the publisher or try both modes to establish which mode works the best for a particular game. Please note: Full gamepad support is not offered by every game. That said, you can often control these games using additional free-of-charge software which you can download from the internet.

Fallout 3 uses xinput (as does most modern games); set it to that mode.

It's this one. I dunn if this one switches to that mode or not. Soz, bit of a noob when it comes to gaming tech.

If you launch games through BPM, it emulates xinput for directinput controllers

Launch fallout3 via BPM and it 'should' work

Correction:

#3 "LED Green: XInput mode" <- So it should be possible.

Big Picture Mode.

You can access it by holding down Alt and pressing Enter; or by clicking the Controller icon on the top right.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm getting somewhere. I can use the controller on BPM and that is all working fine, but it still isn't working with fallout 3. I'm noticing that the game has a small keyborad icon in the top right-hand corner, could that be something? also, thanks for looking up that manual, but annoyingly, I can't get the green light to come on

Have you set the game to actually use the gamepad?
PapaTruc Jun 8, 2015 @ 8:26am
See, I think so. I set up controls and had buttons set for certain things. What else do I need to do? (if anything)

Fallout 3 has a dedicated setting to use the gamepad or not to use it.

Oh really? Could you tell me exactly where to look? I don't see it under controls

Ask me in three quarters of an hour, that's after I've downloaded it.
