I have been playing Marvel Puzzle Quest for months on both systems with no issues.
Steam Client language is set to English
Game language for Gyromancer (In Properties menu) is set to English.
Hold down your Windows -button and press R

I think I fixed the issue through trial and error. For whatever reason downloading the game on my PC will set the language to English. When downloading it to the Laptop the game defaulted to Japanese (even though Steam and Game both are set to English). Still the same game / version just different automatic setup by the game. I navigated through the menus (Pressing random options) and changed the language to English in game.
My save was not there because it is local save only I guess and have to transfer the file through a thumbdrive. I thought steam saved all games on their cloud for users but I guess not.
Glad to hear it's back up and running.
Saves for that game are located in the game folder this time:
Gyromancer_x.dat
If you ever wonder what games have Steam Cloud synchronization, click 'View' > 'Games List' (on the Steam -client, or view the Store -page) and see which games have the Cloud -icon.
After 6 different installs is when I went through the Japanese menus and found an option to switch it to English in game.
