AMD Gaming Evolved, wth is this? (pc noob)

ok so i recently updated my drivers, or rather installed my drivers after installing a new hard drive, and they came with this lovely little program-thinger. now i never needed this thing before so it left me scratching my head as to why i needed it now, but i dont want to uninstall it just yet if it is important. oddly enough it seemes to be stopping games from proceeding passed the first load screen (ie l4d2 and portal 2, not all games, so far just a few). it says those games arent optimized or whatever, but i thought that the games would adjust that on first launch so i am a little confused.

so is this thing really necessary or is it just more bloatware that i was too clicky with when updating the drivers?

It automatically chooses settings for supported games to optimize performance vs. visuals. It also seems to have video recording and social media elements. You can download it from their web site, so if you do not plan to use it, you can safely uninstall.
