Always offline in web browser (need help getting online)

I have a problem whenever I use steam on my web browser. I seem to always be offline, even though I am logged in. This usually is not that big of a deal, but as I wish to chat with my friends while I am on a computer that I cannot download steam on (like my school computer). Do you guys know of a way to make me be online while I am online on a web browser? I usually use firefox as my web browser, but I have tried with google chrome and (oh god) internet explorer too, and I am still set as offline.

If you guys know how to fix this I would be really thankful.

Yes, and when I use steam in the web browser in general. As you can see I am set as offline right now, but I am obviously online as I am posting this.

This could be it.
Being logged into Steam and being online for your contacts are two different things.

I tried logging out and logging back in and opening the chat each time, nothing worked

i got unknown messages from strangers so i tried to delete those msg noti by entering web browser steam chat... now its offline bug now.... first i got only 1 problem..now having 2 problems LUL

this has been happening to me too, plus i can't talk to people on steam chat it doesn't show their names

Same here, I like how this has been the only post on the issue since 2015. Can't find a fix for it, wiping all the cookies and the browser in general didn't help.

The issue is probably with steam web servers. I cannot log on multiple computers/browsers, but I can get on mobile on my phone and everyone on my friends list seems to have no problems. As this topic has been resurrected by multiple people It's likely just a current server issue.
