Steam sending 5 key code instead of 8 for account retrieval
Steam sending 5 key code instead of 8 for account retrieval. Does any one know why i have been trying for 2 days now to get correct one. My GF gets correct 8 key code when she tries with her account and this new account also gets 8 when i try.

Define account retrieval in this context

Are you sure you and your girlfriend are doing the same thing? 5 digits code is typically the SteamGuard -key length.

Yes im sure only thing we chnage is account name we enter. This is the process:
If you know your Steam Account name:
Select the I know my account name. option and click Next.
Enter your account name in the Account name field and click Next.
Check the contact email address for your Steam account for an email containing your Verification Code and Secret Question.

So when we do that as i mentioned her account send 8 key code mys econed account sends 8 key code (no secret question) my main account gets 5key code and secret question.

Problem is there is no where to enter secret question and when i press next which should lead me to password reset it symply gives me a window saying code is wrong. on my seconed account which is this one when i entered 8 keys it sent me to password reset.

I'm having this problem also. 5 digit code being sent to my email when using retrieve password. Also I have text field to enter the secret question like the email states. It's been like this since last friday. 4 Days.

what does 1 have to do to get up higher on steam ticket importance list so they respond??? Steam by far has worst customer support and recoveryl options.

You have a day 1 account don't you? That is you use your email address as your login correct? I'm having the same issue.

Also don't have the box to enter the secret question, apparently a fix is in the works, i've had a ticket open for 2 weeks. You aren't the only one experiencing this. If you haven't already, on your client, opt into the beta, you'll get the fix sooner, whenever it comes...

Already done that, i hadn't had to actually log into my account in a long time, always had the account saved and auto logged in, tried everything i could think it might have been and no luck

I had the same problem. I got a 5 letter code and I was asked to enter the answer to my security question (which was written in the email) in the retrieve account window. Only, there was no field for answering the question, there was only the field for the code. And that alone did not work (The email code you entered was incorrect). I tried the same from a different PC, I got a new 5 letter code and on this PC a diffierent window appeared, providing one line for the code and one for the answer to my securitiy question. And yes, I tried reinstalling the steam client on my main PC and I typed/pasted the code correctly. I have no idea why it was different on my laptop, but you may try to retrieve your account info from another machine.
Hope this helps some of you.
