Dear Howl.
Thank you for the delightful reply.
I have to admit that I'm slightly surprised from the way you seem to be more concerned about the topic being "revived" than you seem to care about the fact that the issue still persists.
That aside I am thankful for your willigness to help. To me it's obvious that you genuinely wanted to help. I mean it's not like you would've been trolling or just seeking attention. I like to think positively and as a result I trust you in this. Besides, you replied helpfully before so why would this time have been any different?
That - your genuine desire to help - raises a few points how ever, and I thought I could mention them here, so you could help others more efficiently in the future:
From your reply I gather that you presumed I didn't know how to do that.
(How to kill a process.)
You how ever forgot to mention how someone (who didn't know how to do what you just adviced me to do) could find the task manager. That should've been the first step in your advice I think. If someone didn't know how to kill a process, they probably haven't been using task manager much either, eh?
Luckily for both of us I knew how to do that, though.
And while the rest of your advice was solid, it doesn't necessarily have to be the "process tree" that will be given the kill command, just killing the (DyingLight) process alone will do the trick.
(The SteamOverlay and other related processess will terminate alongside it just fine, when their parent process is dead and so on.)
And furthermore, perhaps the most important observation here: What you adviced is not really a fix, but a temporary solution. One that a gamer might have to repeat a couple times each day. While it works, it's like using a bucket to scoop the water out of a leaking boat; Shouldn't the boat rather be fixed? Wouldn't that just be easier for everyone?
So once again kindly allow me to extend my warm appreciation to your sincere desire to help with the temporary solution that you tried to offer as an advice, even if it was something you already replied earlier (but we both know not everyone reads the threads they reply to).
However I still believe that rather then being a fun little finger dexterity exercise built into the game (with all the task manager shenanigans) there actually might be a problem/bug within the game that someone else -- like a game developer etc? -- might want to take a look at and/or fix, at their leisure.
( Perhaps something relating to kill commands not being passed on approriately from the GUI onwards, under certain conditions, or processes being called unquoted which causes issues under some circumstances, or something similar; it's usually something very little that gets overlooked. )
Just so, you know, that a few random people wouldn't need to kill the process by hand at the end of each of their Dying Light sessions.
( We may be a vast minority but it's still annoying, you know? I don't even use/have Norton to uninstall that would fix the problem for me.
I will keep on looking for a possible solution in the meantime, encouraged by the positive and helpful community. =) And should I find something that fixes it for me, believe you me, I will give back to the community and share my findings as well!
This is how someone else might find a solution for them, should they have the same issue, but also helps the devs narrow down the potential causes for the issue. Maybe.
-- Yours Truly, Cookie
I'm a little late and have no real advice but I just want to say, this is the best reply ever, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it & I hope you find a fix soon!
On the upside, my hours played stats on various games have gone through the roof, as I'm "playing" when I'm sleeping, eating food, at work, etc.
