1.) Do you meet the system requirements for the game? (yes, stupid question but it's unbelievable how many people just assume they can run modern games and are using some ancient rig)
2.) Are your video drivers up to date?
3.) Have you verified the game files in Steam?
Those are the three biggies.
Play it once, but at the menu just exit out.
Now note under the game library, it will show 29 installation packs. It will start to download them one at a time, this is actually parts of the game. Sometimes it just best to leave it and let it download entirely before even attempting to play.
The idea is it will unlock more stuff (characters, maps, etc) as you can attempt to game on what's already downloaded, but in some cases this is very flakey, will just crash/close out of the game, etc.
You will find the installation pack under the DLC list:
Mortal Kombat X Install 01 to 29 (just make sure all say Installed)
They average at 500MB each, however the last one is a good 10GB (for story mode). It's a total of 36GB I believe?
Gordan Freeman, do you have an AMD computer Maybe it's an AMD thing? Got an FX 8350 and a R9 290x Tri-OC.
Just this game.
Works 100% fine for me now all is downloaded - using Intel i7-3770 with Nvidia GTX 980.
My review though:
"First time (due to possible stream install issue) - Run the game once then exit out, let it preload all the additional installation packs, before diving into a game. This will save you a lot of headache, it might crash out / close / exit the game otherwise still downloading content in background."
Still recommend the game, it's just a once off issue which will resolve with a bit of paitiences.
I'm pretty sure the problem is Steam related rather than MK related.
Locate your Steam folder > steamapps > common > MK10
This is your Mortal Kombat X directory it was installed.
Under the folder "_CommonRedist" you will find required DirectX and vsredist (Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable), go under each, find the EXE files > right-click them and "Run as administrator". These will normally be run upon the first launch, but just double check your Operating System correctly installed them (admin rights will help). Choose to REPAIR if prompted.
Now go back to MK10 folder > Binaries > Retail
You will find the launcher, boot strapper and game EXEs here. We will get to them in a second.
First with Steam Client open > Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Verify Local Game Files.
Then come back to that folder, right-click the EXEs of the game and try "Run as administrator". Make sure any firewall, etc - isn't blocking them.
Go to: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Download the latest ones, if required. Ensure you use Full Express Installation (rather than custom), so it also installs PhysX, etc. The game will also want to use that PhysX.

Still no luck?
Start > Run > Type "Event Viewer" (without the quotes) and select from the list.
Check under Event Viewer (local) > Custom Views > Administrative Events
Look for any red error messages in the log, regarding to the time around the crashing out / closing of the game. Click them and read the notes, it might help lead you to the root cause.
That shouldn't matter. The game runs fine under 4K
Plus u don't HAVE to run 4K just cause you have that kind of display, lower res like 1080p or 1440p down-scale on those displays just fine.
For those having issues; please post your specs.
Saying u installed game, launch it, doesn't work....... LOL that doesn't tells us a dam thing.
Look at the crash logs, event viewer, task manager; etc...
Above all, post your specs & OS or we can't help.
