Mortal Kombat X doesn't Work
I just finished downloading all of Mortal Kombat X and when I click play it asks if I want to "configure" which is basically a steam menu with only my video card and a play button and when I click play nothing happens, nothing launches unless it crashes before I can even see it open, I'm pretty sure nothing even opens.

You should probably post this in the MKX official sub-forum, but a few general troubleshooting steps:

1.) Do you meet the system requirements for the game? (yes, stupid question but it's unbelievable how many people just assume they can run modern games and are using some ancient rig)

2.) Are your video drivers up to date?

3.) Have you verified the game files in Steam?

Those are the three biggies.

First time you install MKX, it will just be a 3GB download initially...

Play it once, but at the menu just exit out.

Now note under the game library, it will show 29 installation packs. It will start to download them one at a time, this is actually parts of the game. Sometimes it just best to leave it and let it download entirely before even attempting to play.

The idea is it will unlock more stuff (characters, maps, etc) as you can attempt to game on what's already downloaded, but in some cases this is very flakey, will just crash/close out of the game, etc.

You will find the installation pack under the DLC list:
Mortal Kombat X Install 01 to 29 (just make sure all say Installed)

They average at 500MB each, however the last one is a good 10GB (for story mode). It's a total of 36GB I believe?

This exact thing is happening to me! Uninstalled and reinstalled 4x. Nada. It's all installed, and yes everything is up to date, including windows. Which updated on the 15th but didn't work before the update either. Also been on phone with WB Games, have support tickets open with Steam. Nobody can tell me what's going on. Contacted Steam at 3am the day it came out. Yet to receive an answer. WB says it's Steams fault, they just give me the runaround. Oh and all my other Steam games work fine btw. And Origin games. No I do not run them at the same time. And I closed everything in start-up that's not necessary in case MKX is sensitive.
Gordan Freeman, do you have an AMD computer Maybe it's an AMD thing? Got an FX 8350 and a R9 290x Tri-OC.

Lithuanian? Your computer wooden? What does that mean? Do you mean broken? That would be a no. Everything else works fine. From all games to Photoshop, Illustrator, Pro Tools, Sony Acid, etc. Speccy, looks good. Just did a NovaBench as well. Also CCleaned in between MKX installs, with Registy cleaner.
Just this game.

To clarify - It messed up the first time I was attempting to play, nothing I tried would fix it, but worked it out pretty quickly it's due to net bandwidth and install packs still been downloaded in background - this can take a while to fully get. The game itself wasn't even fully downloaded yet, by the time it first lets you try and play - you will find modes and characters locked out, random closing out of the game, etc.

Works 100% fine for me now all is downloaded - using Intel i7-3770 with Nvidia GTX 980.

My review though:
"First time (due to possible stream install issue) - Run the game once then exit out, let it preload all the additional installation packs, before diving into a game. This will save you a lot of headache, it might crash out / close / exit the game otherwise still downloading content in background."

Still recommend the game, it's just a once off issue which will resolve with a bit of paitiences.
Yes I do meet the system requirements, I very much doubt that mu 970 would not be sufficient. That being said, I never actually reach any MK menu, steam never launches the game. I click play and nothing happens... I have all 29 parts installed and it still won't work.

I'm pretty sure the problem is Steam related rather than MK related.

Ok, perhap try...

Locate your Steam folder > steamapps > common > MK10

This is your Mortal Kombat X directory it was installed.

Under the folder "_CommonRedist" you will find required DirectX and vsredist (Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable), go under each, find the EXE files > right-click them and "Run as administrator". These will normally be run upon the first launch, but just double check your Operating System correctly installed them (admin rights will help). Choose to REPAIR if prompted.

Now go back to MK10 folder > Binaries > Retail

You will find the launcher, boot strapper and game EXEs here. We will get to them in a second.

First with Steam Client open > Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Verify Local Game Files.

Then come back to that folder, right-click the EXEs of the game and try "Run as administrator". Make sure any firewall, etc - isn't blocking them.

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to help me. Now, I just went through all the steps you listed and it still doesn't work.

What graphic card drivers are you currently using?

Go to: http://www.geforce.com/drivers

Download the latest ones, if required. Ensure you use Full Express Installation (rather than custom), so it also installs PhysX, etc. The game will also want to use that PhysX.

---

Still no luck?

Start > Run > Type "Event Viewer" (without the quotes) and select from the list.

Check under Event Viewer (local) > Custom Views > Administrative Events

Look for any red error messages in the log, regarding to the time around the crashing out / closing of the game. Click them and read the notes, it might help lead you to the root cause.
Nothing has worked so far, can it be because I'm using a 4k monitor? I don't have any 1080p monitor on hand to try.

Gordon Go to amd Website they have a new beta driver...I downloaded it and boom it works. Next time for both of us, stay away from AMD. I am. They suck sac! The driver isn't advertised so you gotta look for it!

That shouldn't matter. The game runs fine under 4K
Plus u don't HAVE to run 4K just cause you have that kind of display, lower res like 1080p or 1440p down-scale on those displays just fine.

For those having issues; please post your specs.
Saying u installed game, launch it, doesn't work....... LOL that doesn't tells us a dam thing.
Look at the crash logs, event viewer, task manager; etc...
Above all, post your specs & OS or we can't help.

Hi Gordon Freeman. I give a up because I have the same problem with Mortal kombat X. When I launch the game, the logo appears a second and disappear and nothing more. I have a GTX 970 too. I would like to know what is you mother board?
