Some Queries Regarding GTA V [Post Installation]
I want to purchase GTA V from Steam right now :D But I have a query beforehand. I know that the game is something like 60 gigs, but the thing is I don't have 60 gigs at this moment on my internal hard drive. So first question is how much free space do I need to have to install the download the game at first place?

Second question and this is an important one, can I save the game (with my progress) to my external hard drive? I mean when I am done with the game can I transfer the game to my external hard disk? Cause I will format the PC when Windows 10 will officially release and then install it again, and with the internet speed I have downloading 60 GB again will be a nightmare, so can I continue to play the game from the point of where I left in a freshly installed OS?

Thanks in advance.

PS: This is my current hard drive free space condition!

I have never purchased anything via Steam ever before, that's why the stupid query.

You need 120GB to download & install that game. But you can start the download directly to your external drive where you hopefully have the space.

Okay thanks for replying. Can I download the game by making 60+ gigs free for the time being and then install later? Cause I want to download straight to my internal drive as the game will be installed in that only. Or 120 GB is must for downloading only? I want to start the download as soon as possible as my net speed is slow and in will take a lot of time and in that meantime I will be able to move the unwanted files to my external to make space for installation.

Yes, I have almost 3 TB free on my external.

Could you also respond to my other query?

That was only for the decryption process with the pre-loaded content. It would keep the encrypted files; and decrypt in another location therefore doubling in size until decryption was finished.

60GB is enough now, as it won't even download the encrypted content.

GTA5 is 60,6GB uncompressed; the download is 59.1GB (compressed) I believe.

As for the second question:
Yes, you can.

  • Just copy the Grand Theft Auto V folder from
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\
  • and the appmanifest_271590.acf file from
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\
and you're good to go with core game files.

Save games are located here
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\

Okay, thanks, that's relieving. By the way, I want to download the game for example say to my 'I' partition, how can I do that? I have no idea about the Steam app which I just installed.

There is no way I can download/install in C partition.

Make a nee Steam library on your external drive.

Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders.

Thanks once again sir.

Last question, which payment option should I select? PayPal (I have PP a/c) or normal VISA? I mean I know that there will be a slight extra charge for PayPal but is the same applied for VISA too?

Out of the two, you can only verify VISA, I personally use that.

Thanks once more. Done, LOL, my first purchase. There was that extra fee too, but I don't give a damn really.

Now time to install.

Thanks to all.

Sorry for bringing the topic up, but the download is almost finished (yeah it took over a week) now and time to install it. But the thing is, I don't have the 60 gigs space on my I partition where I am downloading the game (59.1 GB folder). Now can I install it in a different partition, or is it mandatory that the download and installation locations have to be identical? If yes, how?

One more thing, say if I transfer (cut, not copy) the whole download folder (59.1 GB one) to my external drive, and then can I install the game from that drive?

For starters, make a new Steam library on that drive and go install the game there. Then you can see if you can move the downloaded files there.

Yeah laugh as much as you can, but I was kind of misinformed here, at least by someone! I was told that I would need 60+60 GB, meaning 120 GB space to download and then install the game. But after downloading was done no extra was acquired to install the game. There is only one folder, that is the download folder, which is 60.6 GB, and the game is installed inside that folder. So basically it took 60 GB for both downloading and installation!

Anyway, I was told that I would get one or two updates after installing the game, a 700 MB one and another 5 GB one later, I didn't get either.

It's because the 60x2 was only for the pre-load; the game doesn't pre-load anymore as it's already released; therefore the 120GB requirement doesn't stand anymore.

Pre-load was encrypted and downloaded to depotcache and was decrypted to SteamApps; so at 99.9% it would be around 120GB; then removing the encrypted content once finished.

I actually said this in #3.

Yes, I wasn't talking about you mate. See the response in 2nd post.

Anyway, is there any way to get rid of this? This happens every time I launch the game! Really annoying :(

I wasn't responding to you in #3 either, I responded to ReBoot whom you were responding to; therefore I was indirectly responding to you too.

#12 has a concept I explained in #3, simply put.

As for the DirectX; install it.
If it keeps freezing, navigate yourself to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto V\_CommonRedist\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe

Run it manually.

EDIT: You've got it running now.
