How to change the name of a category in my steam library
Hi
So i am doing a bit of spring cleaning in my steam library, and it struck me, that several of my game categories are inaccurate so i want to change their name so that the games added to this category is a lot more precise. Only problem is that i have no idea how to do it. I have looked through almost everything and yet i cannot find anywhere that allows me to change the category title.
So anyone out there, that can explain to me, how to change or delete a category title.

My thanks for any help you chappy guys can come up with.

No direct way to rename sadly. You have to remove every game from a category then it deletes itself. After that create a new category with the name you want and move your games there.

You're making it more complicated then it actually is.

Select all the games in a category and add them to the new category(s) you want and uncheck the old one.
Then click OK and you're done.

Just click once on the first game in the category, hold shift and click the one at the bottom and click set categories.

Right click on the game you want to move to a catigory and it should say "move to catigory" or "create a new catigory" click on one of those and I think you can just click done or something

Why do you keep answering as if BloodShed didn't already make it perfectly clear how you are supposed to do it? :P

In case anyone else happen to get here trying to know how to change it, there is an easier way if you don't mind chaging a configuration file.

Basically, close Steam and open this file:
<steam_location>\userdata\<user_id>\7\remote\sharedconfig.vdf
(If you don't know your user_id, help yourself here[steamidfinder.com])

Then replace every occurrence of the category name you want to change, to the one you really want. Use Notepad++ or SublimeText to do it more easily. Bear in mind that some character are escaped here, for example, my problem was that I mistyped a category and it had an slash at the end, so to change it I had to search for "//".

I've just tried and worked flawlessly, so I'm sharing here.

The complete explanation is here: https://gaming.stackexchange.com/a/307284/54809

Hi everyone, I have a couple apps that are in the software category and I want to see them in Games or in one of my customized folders. Any way to do that? even if I change the category I can only see them under software which is of no use to me when all my subfolders/categories belong to Games.
Any way to change that?
