BT Broadband and Steam Downloads
OK, so recently I have been able to get the BT Infinity (Business Hub 5 or something or other) and have been having problems with steam downloads specifically. I can still log on to steam and play games and chat with friends, but when I start downloading a game, it will get up to about 1mbps, stay like that for about 5-10 seconds and then all network connections to my PC will stop. All the other computers in the house will still work fine, and the only solution to recovering the internet on my PC is to restart the computer, and, it being about 7 years old and stuffed with useless stuff, takes about 10 minutes.

Anyway, first I found a post on the BT ( http://store.steampowered.com ) website about a similar problem, except the guys downloads held out for about 5-10 minutes before the whole internet in the house stopped, and the recommendation that seemed to work for that was to connect it to his modem instead of the homehub. I've tried looking around for this modem but I don't think we have one, which kinda confuses me.

Secondly, I tried changing the steam settings. I thought that maybe when steam took up a certain amount of the downloading space it stopped the network to this computer or something. I changed it so that it was maxed out at 2mbps, which is the highest it as hit, but that didn't work either.

Finally, I had a look at port-forwarding on BT and found 2 things. I found the list of port forwarding options somewhere in the world of BT and tried port forwarding the Game Downloads gateway specifically, but that didn't work. I then took a look at the Steam Games option that is pre-coded into the BT settings, and found that the gateway there or whatever it is called was different to the gateway given by steam on the website, and that got me more confused.

Anyway, today we talked to BT, and the guy over there said that he used steam himself and BT and steam had no problems they know of, and that I should talk to steam about what might be the problem. He also suggested, without us mentioning, that it might be something to do with port-forwarding, and if someone knew the solution they could help us to set it up on our hub.

So... any ideas?
