Steam sharing - Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai
Hello lads, I have a bit of a problem regarding steam sharing.
I bought Shogun 2 some time ago, I can normally play it etc. But now I thougt "Hey, my dad has Fall of the Samurai, we could do steam sharing and I could play both games". And so the problem is, I arranged the sharing and I can play dad's games, but I cannot play the FotS... Why? These games should be separate shouldn't they? I know that it's not possible to share dlc's if I own the game without them, but this is no dlc. Maybe Steam thinks that I already have the game, because they are both "Shogun 2" in games library.
Anyways, thank you for all your comments and hope you will help me :)

the thing is it is listed as an dlc, might be a stand alone i dont know, but i would guess since u both own the "base" game it wont let u share his version of the Shogun 2, you can test this out by making a new account and try to use that to play his version of Shogun 2 and see if the dlcs comes with it..

but it is listed as DLC and not a game..

FOTS is basically "Shogun2" DLC for the way Steam sees it due to the way CA packaged th game on Steam.

Its a standalone but it 'look' like Shogun2 DLC to Steam. Since you own Shogun2 it doesnt give you the DLC from teh target system

Its kinda confusing but its the way CA packaged the game

The thing is, I logged into his account (with his permission...) and when I downloaded it (I had not shogun 2 installed), it was just the FotS game, without normal shogun 2 campaign etc. So it looks like Steam recognies it as a dlc but it isn't, it's a fully playable standalone game. I even logged into dads account and downloaded the FotS when I had normal Shogun installed and it only downloaded -+3 gigs -> that means, it sort of is and sort of isn't a dlc. When you don't have base game, it is fully playable and downloads +-13 gigs, and when you have the base game it just "updates" with another 3 gigs.

If you log in directly to their account it will download the game normal as the normal rules for accounts apply. Aka, your dad can play FotS but not Shogun2. When you play, you'll see Shogun2 but not FotS.

If you use family sharing it's going to use the rules that family sharing is based on,which is that 'dlc' is not downloaded if you own the base game.

In Shogun2, FotS is 'DLC' according to Steam. Again this is confusing but it's the way CA packaged the game on Steam.

The problem I face here is that even if I create a new account and set up the sharing, it will just download the FotS. I'd like to have both games available and not just my shogun 2 or just dads FotS.

That's not possible with FotS again because of the way Steam 'thinks' the game is. It's a DLC according to steam (yes yes I know its not really but that's what steam thinks it is). Because of that the Steam's rules for DLC apply on Family Sharing. DLC is not downloaded for games you already own.

What you want to do is not possible with Family Sharing with FotS.
