sorry im usually a console gamer i have no idea what that means :S
my mac has

processor 1.3 ghz intel core i5
memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD graphics 5000 1536 MB
Software OS X 10.95

thanks
The HD 5000 isn't half bad so you probably could run Empire Total War on it OK even though it says: The following graphics cards are not supported: ATI X1xxx series, Intel GMA series and NVIDIA 7xxx series.

Your card is in the Intel HD series, not the Intel GMA series (which sucked) so technically yes, but I am not sure how fast it would run on the HD 5000.

You should be able to run it. Have a quick look through some MacBook Air: Total War - YouTube Videos

A suggestion: if you don't want to mess with the technological side of things, it's best to buy beefy hardware. Nerds can deal with sucky hardware, normal users don't. And the expensive rig has the least hassle to deal wirth.

also should i slow down the fps and play it on low to medium settings ?

Why don't you just try? Start with high settings and if the game runs too slow, lower the settings.

The game will auto detect your specifications and present the optimum settings. If you wish to manually change the settings, you could also do so

Keep in mind, I'm currently using my Macbook Air for schoolwork (and browsing Steam discussions, heh :) ). I would truly reccommend getting something that can cool down the Macbook Air while playing games. I've tried playing games like Bastion and Paper's Please and each time it has gotten super warm and the fans spinning like crazy.

If you can, get it. Otherwise, you will not have a fun time playing with the fans on full speed.

If you haven't played a game, then it's understandable. It never happens to me unless I'm playing a game on my macbook.
