Can I install Portal 2 install using PC-DVD and 2 new CD-keys
I would like to install Portal 2 on two PC that do not yet have anything] Steam related on them, but I would like to avoid consuming all of my meager bandwidth and wasting too much time downloading at our equally meager 1.3Mb/s.

Below are the steps I plan to take. Can anyone see where/if this is likely to fail?

These PCs are starting fresh - no Steam installed yet, so I expect the fully online download route would be large and doubled since I'm doing two computers.

I found an old copy of Portal 2 Win/Mac DVD-ROM (like this one[www.amazon.com] on Amazon.com) but the CD-Key is no good (used on another account by another person ages ago).

I will buy two new worldwide Portal 2 CD-Keys from GamesDeal[www.gamesdeal.com] (they're 66% off right now which is about $10 each) or from Steam's Portal 2 - Two pack for twice the price (if that's the only way this will work).

I will install the current version of Steam from online, then use the new CD-Keys to activate Portal 2 on both accounts, but stop it from downloading anything. I will then use the DVD-ROM to install Portal 2's base files, and finally let Steam apply whatever updates are needed.

(Optional Step) Can I do the Portal 2 install and all its updates on one PC and copy specific files/folders to the other to avoid needing to do all the update downloading twice? Both PCs are Win 7 64-bit systems.

You can install from DVD, but you will still need to install updates, which may be quite large.

//edit// Yes, you can copy the files from one PC to the other.

You can also copy the files from one PC to the other (referring to your Optional Step)

Thanks Moeroris & Teutep. Can either of you point me to a post where I can figure out what files/folders to copy from 1 PC to the other for Portal 2? I presume I can't just copy files/folders for the Steam updates.

Portal 2 folder from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

You might as well backup the SteamApps\appmanifest_620.acf -file.
