Is it possible to use german steam gift cards on other nation's accounts?
I hope I'm in the correct board for this question (if not, can a mod move it?). :)

I want to buy a Steam gift card in a german supermarket (REWE, but there are also others who sell such cards). Since I only have a russian steam account, I'm not sure if I can use a german gift card on any of these accounts? Would I need to create a german account while I'm in Germany to use the card, or can I use the card on any account as long as I am staying in the country of the card's origin?

It would be better if Valve would clarify by writing on the backside of the card where it can be used. Apple does this for their german iTunes cards (I only know it for the cards sold by LIDL for sure ;-)).

On the contrary. It Will. Steam Gift Cards will work regardless of the cards currency or the redeemers currency. The card's currency value will be converted to the redeemers wallet currency value on redemption.

Simple as that.

EG. YOu have a $20 US Gift card but your wallet's currency is in Euros. When you redeem the gift card you will receive $20 US worth of Euros added to your wallet. The conversion rate is done at the standard currency conversion rate that steam uses.

It's just a code, it is not bound to just a single currency. The currency given has already been pre-determined based on the code from the card u purchased. They can be redeemed on any Steam account. The only restriction really is where they are actually sold around the world is all.

Thank you very much for all your kind answers. I'll contact the Steam support for Germany (if there is any ;D),too, just to be sure. I'll post their answer there, too, for other people which have the same question as me.

Yes, without a problem. It will automatically convert the money into your current store currency. ( if its a different one)
