Slow Downloads on a fast connection?
Sorry I can't navigate the 700+ pages to find a similar topic but I have 150mb per second download and 20mb per second upload but steam downloads games at 1mb per second average and fluctuates between around 500k and 2mb. I have done speed test on my connection and I actually exceed those specs. I have tried changing download region between the two closest to my area and tried switching the limit bandwith between 25mb and no limit, Currently back on no limit. My cousin and I are room mates and using the same connection he was downloading games at ridiculous speeds so I cant find why mine is so slow.

Choose other Internet provider

Same internet provider in the same house connected to the same modem using a cat 6 cable. Why is one computer downloading games over 20mb per second while the other struggles to do 2mb per second...

So I tried uninstalling steam to reinstall it not realizing it would delete the 40+ games that were installed and it still did not fix the issue. I read that antivirus can cause issues so I uninstalled Mcafee and steam worked beautifully. Reinstalled Mcafee now and steam is working fine still. Not sure what the problem was but maybe this will help someone else. Try removing and reinstalling the antivirus software.

Try using the task manager to close any unused processes, and try to eliminate any bandwith hogs around the house such as Netflix and YouTube while downloading.

After uninstalling Mcafee its downloading steam games over 20mbs with other people in the house downloading. After reinstalling Mcafee its still going just as fast. Cant say its a fix for everyone but thats what did it in my case. Good luck figureing it out
Your AntiVirus might be slowing it down, or a Firewall or Internet Security product.

Try GFI or VIPRE instead.

Try GFI or VIPRE AntiVirus, it does a good job of disinfecting Steam machines:

It doesn't slow Steam downloads down... and is one of the only AntiVirus products NOT on the Steam incompatibility or 'may cause problems' list. So it's good.

It is also on the Microsoft site as a supported Windows 7 AntiVirus product.

your lieng, 150mb isen't even a thing yet, the highest right now is 90mb...
It would be the speed of his WiFi connection, 802.11n often connects at 150 Mbps (which is 15.00 to 18.75 MB per second max).

150mbs is definately a thing. If I could figure out how to post a screen capture of my speed test results here I would but this is a link to my internet provider's website. https://mediacomcable.com/site/internet.html
I am actually between 160 and 170mb on download and usually around 25mb upload speeds.

Quite reasonable, given some people have 1Gbps Internet connections (i.e. Google Fiber).
