How to find .exe file of a steam game?
I have been looking through steam - steamapps - common - (Name of game) but no files in the game folders have been .exe files.
I'm not a veteran at PC gaming and navigation.
Does the .exe file always have ".exe" at the end?

Thanks, in advance :)

Thanks.
Should they say ".exe" at the end of it?
Or is it normal for it to be an "application file"

it say application unless you told your folder view to show extentionns.

in the menu bar(press alt if you do not have one) in explorer go to tools>folder options>view to show extentions like .exe

uncheck hide extentions for know file types.

The application file will still work just as fine as the .exe file if I used it with something like NVIDIA inspector, right?

Could also go to the Common folder, then do a Search for
*.exe (with that asterisk) and that will file all files of that type. Alot of games have a Bin folder and that is usually where the main game .exe is. But again, each game structures it's folders/files differently. Main game exe is not always in the root folder.

What do you mean "work as an .exe with NVIDIA inspector"? What is it exactly you trying to do?

Possibly for some override; like for the refresh rate.

I had to find the .exe file of my games so that I can optimise them.
It gave Battlefield Hardline a 20-30 FPS boost. (On top of my original FPS)

Old thread is old, but for future reference

On all platforms (Windows, Mac, SteamOS/Linux), the precise executable file that Steam launches (which may not be the main game exe, because some things (like XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within) trigger launchers which in turn launch the game) can be found using Steam's console (steam://nav/console - also available by launching Steam with the "-console" option). Find the game's AppID, and run "app_info_print AppID" in the console. There will be one or more "config" sections, at least one of which will contain a "launch" section. That has numbered subsections, each of which specifies its platform in a config:oslist entry, and specifies the application (using a relative path with {steam_library_folder}/steamapps/common/{gamefolder} as its base) in an "executable" entry.
