Error 53 on multiple games... tried all fixes I could find.
It may be more than 2 games, idk. I havent gone through and tested them all.
It happened with Civ V but I fixed it.
But in Borderlands 2
and Total War: Rome II I keep getting error 53. Turn off my active virus scan AND firewall.
Still get the error code.
-delete that .blob. file. Still get code.

system restarts, steam restarts, the error is persistent.

please help.

I am very upset about this -not being able to play games I spent good money on IS NOT FUN

(note. trying to verify game cache now)

What antivirus are you on?; despite you saying you disabled it.
Anything in here?: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

Try this, since the .blob -file seems to be a bit of an obsolete thing.
  1. Navigate yourself to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
  2. Try to remove everything except
    • Steam.exe
    • SteamApps -folder
    • userdata -folder
    • ssfn(numbersequence)

  3. Re-launch Steam

mcafee -which I WONT be reupping my subscription to...

on a side note, any reccommended antivirus programs that dont mess up your system trying to help it?

I'll try to do what you suggested.

disable the real time scanning as the FAQ say.
Praxis Abraxis Mar 29, 2015 @ 12:35am
I disabled Mcafee though and the problem still exists.
Praxis Abraxis Mar 29, 2015 @ 12:35am
which I already said I did. firewall disabled too.
JunkyXL Mar 29, 2015 @ 12:36am
mcafee real time scanning is not a firewall.

I'd recommend to uninstall the whole thing and just install a better antivirus, like Microsoft Security Essentials; or Avast.

(Some people are going to find it ironic that I mention Avast, I'm sure.)

it is anti virus... which includes real time scanning. firewall. etc. -when in my original post I said I tried every fix I could I find I meant it.

disable mcafee real time scanning not disable mcafee.
disable mcafee after you disabled real time scanning.

problem is I spent good money on Mcafee and I dont have the money to buy another sub to a different antivirus atm. Ill try uninstalling it though and reinstalling if the problem is fixed when its uninstalled.

you also spent good money on steam right?

no need to get rid of mcafee disable the real time scan.

As I said. I DID disable real time scanning. that was the first thing I tried.
Praxis Abraxis Mar 29, 2015 @ 12:39am
and that was over a month ago I tried that. and tried that again. and again. doing that changes nothing.
