HELP? new way of stealing items!!
A few minutes ago.... Someone added me on steam. He asked if how much keys does my item worth? I told him I don't need any keys I prefer items.. And then he told me "How about other knife or skins for my your knife?" I said yes I like other items you want to offer. I checked his inventory he doesn't have any item or guns in his own inventory. I said "You don't have any items in your inventory.. Don't try to fool me!" He respond that he will buy from the market the item I like. If its expensive he said I need to add some more. I said I'll just need to pick the item that has the same market value so I don't need to add anymore. He said "Fine go check the store.." I screenshot every conversation we had. But after that I ask him if is it LEGIT? or some kind of scam because I'm unaware this is nothing like the links I have from other people who add me before. They put effort on this! He told me that he would like to know if my item is NOT TAKEN from another player like I STOLE IT from someone here in steam-community. He said that he would like to double check it if its really mine. He said to TRADE it to MY TRUSTED FRIEND and he will check if he got my item. and I'll just trade it back. So I ask my close friends for a favor. After I trade the ITEM I told that guy or whoever he/she is. I traded the item to my friend YOU CAN CHECK IT NOW. And I'll just get it back after he check it. BUT AFTER HE SAID "ok wait let me check it again" he UNFRIENDED ME and I got curious... Why? that's when I realize maybe I got hacked or something and he use my FRIEND where I trade my item. After that I check the steam offer my friend sent to me it say "Items Now Unavailable For Trade" so there it is. Nice story I got robbed I just need some advice how to... MAYBE get my item back or something because this is really annoying! I'm so pissed. Is this their new way of stealing items? I HAVE ALL THE EVIDENCE! So I'll report this to steam. Thanks in advance.

Not a new way exactly, no.

Sorry, but you're not getting your items back, you gave away your items to someone else voluntarily.

You gave away your item. Never do that, no matter what someone promises you in return.

This isn't a new method, it's the same method used all the time. Trick you into giving away your item.

Then.... explain to me how the item vanish? and I can't find it even in my FRIEND'S INVENTORY?

It wasn't your friend, it was a friend of the scammer. Tricking you. They just changed their name to match someone from your friend list.
Or they copied your name and tricked your friend into giving it to them thinking it was you.

Either way, you lost the item as soon as you traded it away for nothing in return.

Like Tirith said, you gave away your item to a fake friend, voluntarily. All trades are final. He or another scammer imposed as your friend. One of the oldest scams there is.

Very old scam. Very basic scam too. You wont get your items back as you gifted them away.

Steam don't seem to be taking much interest in these situations now as the account holder has to demonstrate vigliance and common sense. The protected trading windows and restrictions is the way to do such business but Valve can only go so far and users still falling for this method wont get much sympathy.

Uh, NO AGAIN.. I talked to that FRIEND OF MINE AND HE DOESN'T KNOW ( the trader ) after I send my link's STEAM PROFILE that is the only time he knew my friend's PROFILE... He even ADD him and I double checked it if he really add my friend. We even speak in our language that someone is trading me but he/she doesn't believe that it really is my item...

Exactly. You told the scammer who your friend was. And the scammer added your friend. The scammer then changed his name to match yours and tricked your friend into giving the item to him. Your friend thought he was giving it back to you, but he really gave it to the scammer.

It's a very simple scam, but effective because people don't pay attention.

Report the scammer by clicking on their profile and going to the "More" button.

Ugh, people you even read the post? I don't give any item I just ask my FRIEND to HOLD IT for me. I even check my FRIEND'S PROFILE THAT THE ITEM IS ALREADY TRADED. as a matter of fact he said that the PROFILE IS PRIVATE HE CAN'T SEE THE ITEM THAT I TRADED TO MY FRIEND SO THAT'S WHY HE NEEDS TO ADD MY FRIEND FIRST. Don't jump into conclusion because I'm not stupid to give people FREE ITEMS that I do not know.

UGH, NO AGAIN MISTER @TirithRR HE DDN'T KNOW THE PROFILE OF MY FRIEND BEFORE I EVEN TRADE the item. You're not even helping you don't understand the situation. AT ALL.
Faolchu Mar 27, 2015 @ 12:21pm
Well to be honest it's hard to make any sense of your post without you using any paragraphs.

Maybe your friend can't trade the supposed item, that he should still have according to you because he has trade limit or a trade ban and can't trade it back to you.

Have your friend check this: http://steamcommunity.com/my/inventoryhistory

as soon as you traded outside the system (using middleman), you revoked any hope of getting your item(s) back. details beyond that are useless to everyone here.

contact support, they will tell you pretty much the same thing.
