Saving games for redownload

This might seem like a dumb question to many of you but I would like to know how to keep my game progress (saved games) when I uninstall Steam games from my computer. Sometimes I have to uninstall games I haven't finsished to free up space on my computer, but would like pick up in the game where I left off when I redownload them in the future rathaer than having to start the game at the beginning again.

I also have a GOG account and when I uninstall a GOG game from my computer it asks me if I would like to keep my saved games before uninstall. For some reason Steam games do not give the same prompt when I uninstall them.

I have a PC with Windows 8.1.

If it is a simple process could someone please walk me through it?

In most cases, uninstalling shouldn't delete your saves.

Steam doesn't give you the option to choose if you want to delete them or not like GOG does, so you'll have to find where the saves are located and back them up manually.

Arrived here to say just this. I use it all the time, never had an issue (other than an external hard drive filling up fast)

Use it before Uninistalling the game to be safe, it usually prompts you if any manual intervention is required, or if it's not needed due to Steam Cloud.
