$US to $NZ conversion in store prices
My Steam client just restarted and now all prices are shown in New Zealand dollars instead of US dollars. At first glance, this seems really helpful, but I have noticed that all game prices end in 99 cents, just as they did when they were listed in US prices. So clearly there is some rounding going on. The FAQ says that the prices are being converted using current market conversion rates, but makes no mention of rounding. Can someone please shed some light on this?

It's not a live conversion from US dollars based on the exchange rates, everything is individually priced in each of the currencies Steam supports. Publishers can either accept the default conversions that Valve suggests (which I hear is $10 US to $12 NZ) or set their own price.

So unless there's an incredibly wild swing in exchange rates, you won't see these prices change.
Steam now says that GTA V is NZ$ 74.99, which I'm pretty sure is the USD price. It still has NZ $75 when you go to checkout. But at the final step, after you've entered payment information it decides it's now NZ$ 92.00, which is the price converted from NZD to USD.

Hey, buy this game for $75, give us your credit card and, wolla, now it's $92. Pretty misleading...

I've been using USD even though im from New Zealand, And when the conversion changed it threw me off as i'm a CS:GO trader. I put in a ticket to see if there is a way to "alter" the currency's between USD and NZD of free will not to just be stuck with the single currency.

I came here because of this. I was close to following it through and paying $92. I wonder when they'll sort that out.

I sent in a ticket, who knows how long that will take.

Good on you for sending the ticket, mabe they need to be spammed? This seems to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ATM, which of course is unusual at Steam. The Displayed price in NS$ should not be the US$ amount. And BTW it isn't. I've checked and the Displayed amount is infact a conversion from US$. So why the second conversion that increases the price again at the Payment end? Who the ♥♥♥♥ knows. That is where the error is.

DOnt bother, they wont do it. The market currency is a permanent change. Your market transactions will always appear in NZD now.
I see that GTA V is NZ$91.99 today. Perhaps it was just a teething problem.

No not teething, gouging problem. It is US$59.99, so should be about $78.84 if it is only an exchange rate change.

Edit:
Yep just chacked on the US Price and it is definitely still US$59.99. For The NZ price to be NZ$92 the US price would have to be US$70 if only conversion was taking place.

Reply from steam:

Your Steam account's currency is correct. We will be unable to change it.

Prices in the Steam Store are set on a region by region basis. The price and currency displayed are the set prices for those games and items based on your location.

Get use to the NZD prices guys
At least you guys get to buy the resident evil pack for 1 kiwi dollars.
Yep, GTA V is $60USD for the US, but $75USD for AU/NZ.. Awesome! :P
It's like we pay shipping for a downloadable game.

I just worked it out....They are adding GST.
US$60 becomes NZ$80 after currency convertion plus 15% GST becomes NZ$92 and they are probably pocketing it because they don't have to pay GST.
GTA V was $75 USD in New Zealand before they switched the currency over; the currency is completely orthogonal to Rockstar's decision to charge over the odds.

If you look at SteamDB's pricing information for a few games, you'll see that most games in NZ are cheaper than in the US.

I'm not sure why people are whining

The new NZD price is cheaper than the previous USD price
