20GB of downloaded data down the drain
I spent 60$ on Evolve, started to download it, It was at 20GB then Steam updated and it's now at 0. I have a data cap ffs. I now have to waste 40$ on the extra data it's going to take me to download it again.

What gives?

Read the link again. If you still do not understand. Have an adult with technical expertise help you. It basically means that the 20gbs is likely still on your machine... steam is just not recognizing it. If you go to the game and hit the install button again... steam should "see" the existing data and add it from your hard drive. It will not re-download over existing data if it's good uncorrupted data. Also.. since you have a metered internet connection, get an external hard drive and back up your game data to it so that you do not have to re-download it in the future. Click "steam" at the top left corner, then "backup and restore games".

Also... before you click install again on your Evolve game, check the following: click "steam" -> "settings" -> "downloads" -> "steam library folders" button. And make sure that it's showing something like c:\program files (x86)\steam. Try searching your computer's hard drives for any other steam folders and add them there... that might bring back anything lost. Good luck

It's showing the x86 folder but I can't find Evolve anywhere. I tried telling it to back it up but it says that only fully downloaded games can be backed up.

Exactly, I would advise the OP to change their internet package with their ISP to an All-You-Can-Eat plan, then you don't have to worry about such nonesense

check the steam/steamapps/downloading folder... if it's there, you've lost nothing. Just click the install button on the evolve game page again. It will pick it up from where you left off. And as i explained before... the backup option is for once you get stuff in place, you can prevent using up your data in the future.

Not everyone has the option of an "All-You-Can-Eat plan". Even Comcast Xfinity currently has test markets in which at 300gb you start paying extra for 50gb blocks. They will likely extend this to all markets once their cable television business model is further destroyed by online streaming options.

Not every country offers such plans.
